Checkers or Wreckers

A new (old) Division of AMX Racing.

The purpose of this class is Entertainment for the fans and a very inexpensive entry level for new and old drivers that look under the hoods of what we are racing now and feel they can not compete with the $$.

A little bit of a through back to the good old days. This is not a derby but pushing your opponent out of your way or spinning them out in the turn to get advantage is legal and expected. There will be absolutely no bumping, pushing, hitting in the arena area. If your car is involved in contact in the arena you will be immediately disqualified (Black Flagged).

The Event will be XX cars for XX laps or the last car running. If you pull off the track for any reason you are out and may not resume the race.

This will be a claimer class, all entrants in this division can purchase the winning car for $500.00 (safety gear such as fire extinguisher, window net, harness, racing seat may be removed).

The cars:

Car Specifications:
l. No convertibles, van, SUV’s, 4-wheel drives or rear engine cars allowed.
2. Single drive shafts only, front-wheel drive cars allowed.
3. Car must be stock, no body alteration.
4. All chrome, plastic and loose metal must be removed.
5. A 3/16” clutch plate shield required on all manual transmissions. Drive line loop required.
6. One naturally aspirated carburetor only. Fuel injection if stock.
7. No engine set back. A set back engine is an engine not located in the manufactured stock position.
8. Make of cars must have matching make parts (ie. GM to GM parts, Ford to Ford parts). No truck parts allowed.

Allowable Body Alterations
Firewall may be caved or bent for distributor clearance only. NO HOLES CUT OUT!
NO Locked rear-end allowed.
No A-arm strengthening allowed
ONE shock per wheel, in OEM Position.
Motor tie-down recommended.
NO Frame connectors allowed.
Spring spacers
No long travel suspensions allowed
Extra protection on driver’s door, inside only
Gain access to shift linkage or floor shift
NO Skid plates
Electric fan if Stock

Reinforcement
No reinforcement permitted (except for driver’s door). No reinforcement permitted under the hood or trunk lid.

Door, Roof, Trunk
Hood, doors and trunks must be securely attached with cable, chain, bolted or welded.
If vehicle has a sunroof, that area must be covered with metal and must be securely fastened.
At least a 6” fire access hole must be cut in the trunk if there is a fuel cell or tank contained there-in.
Race vehicles must have a 4” x 10” fire slot in the hood on the passenger side.
Stock exhaust with mufflers.
Non Functioning hood scoops allowed.

Added Weight
Weight added to the car must be properly secured.

Horns
Horns are not allowed.

Glass
No glass in vehicle or bottom of doors except instrument glass.
Mirrors are NOT allowed.

Brakes
All four brakes must be in good working order at start of race.

Lights
One amber running light must be located in rear window compartment. No excessively bright lights.
Dimensions: 2”x 5” or 2” x 6” unit (10 to 12 square inch of amber lens.

Fuel And Fuel Tank Regulations
No exotic fuels allowed, based on NHRA fuel allowances.
The AMX reserves the right to test fuels.
Gas tank in a CAR may be in stock position or a manufactured tank. It must be leak proof, securely fastened and vented in trunk of car with the firewall in place. If installed in the trunk, a 6” hole in the trunk lid is required for fire access. Gas line running through drivers compartment must be encased in metal tubing.
NO ELECTRIC FUEL PUMPS unless original equipment.
Master Shut-off Switch recommended to be installed: mounted in center of dash area, accessible for safety crew to reach from driver side, passenger side and through the windshield area.

Batteries
No under the hood batteries allowed.
Batteries must be securely mounted with minimum 3/8” bolts and fully enclosed in a Marine battery box.

Exhaust/Mufflers
Headers NOT allowed.
Muffler MANDATORY size does not matter, but if the officials feel that your car is excessively noisy you will have to remedy the problem.

Transmission Coolers
Transmission cooler stock position.

Radiators
Radiators must be in stock position. If radiator mount is broken, a mount may be made to put around radiator to hold it in stock position.
Screen or 1/8” maximum expanded metal may be installed in front of radiator itself, but must not reinforce the front of the vehicle, cannot be attached to the bumper.
NO Spray nozzles.

Roll Cage
Minimum 6 point cage, one head loop with six anchor points two to the firewall two to the year seat area.
At least 2 bars on drivers side door for protection.
Roll cage will not extend out of the driver compartment.
Roll cage may be tested with a hammer.

Bumpers
It is strongly suggest to strap or chain your bumper to keep it from dragging on the ground.
Bumper Must be mounted in stock position, front and back.
Nothing may be attached to the front or rear bumper except the bumper loops.
Only car bumpers allowed.

Mud Flaps
Mud flaps are mandatory on all vehicles at the start of the race.
Mud flaps must be securely bolted to the rear bumper, No chains.
Flaps must be 12" wide and 4" from the ground and located directly behind the rear tires, being horizontal with the outside of the rear tire tread pattern.
Mud flaps must be made from rubber material (including rubber belting) at least 5/16" thick.

Fire Extinguishers
Each vehicle must have a fire extinguisher in their pit area, it does not need to be mounted in the vehicle.

Tires
Tires need to be P rated D. O. T. approved only
Tire tread will not exceed 3/16”
No studded tires allowed.
No grooving tires.
Only one tire per wheel, NO tire within a tire.

Harness, Window Net & Numbers
A five-point harness that goes over both shoulders and across the lap mandatory. NO HOMEMADE HARNESS OR WINDOW NETS WILL BE ALLOWED FOR THE RACES. Harness must anchor below shoulder line. All five points must be in use.
An approved racing window net is mandatory to cover the driver’s door window opening.
A covering is required over the driver’s windshield area. This does not have to cover the entire window. No door screen allowed. 1/8” expanded metal recommended. A support bar located in the center of the windshield is mandatory.
Numbers have to 14” or larger on both front doors and be contrasting in color to the body color of the vehicle. A number fin is required on the top of the vehicle, with numbers being on both sides of the fin. You may use either a single fin or an A-frame fin. The numbers on the fin must be no smaller than 7” and the fin must be painted black with white numbers or white with black numbers. No Exceptions! The fin must be mounted on the center of the roof so that the numbers can be read from the side of the vehicle.
Door numbers will not be mandatory, but if you have door numbers they must match the fin number.
